Café Des Amis sits in the heart of Breaux Bridge and serves up a laid-back yet lively Cajun dining experience that feels deeply rooted in the local culture. This is not a fancy, white-tablecloth spot, but rather a welcoming place where folks gather to enjoy hearty Louisiana flavors and good company.

The interior is spacious with a casual, somewhat rustic vibe, often a bit cool inside due to its size. The atmosphere leans toward lively and social, making it easy to strike up conversations or simply savor your meal while soaking in the sounds and rhythms of this small town. It’s a place where the focus is on food that satisfies and connects you to the region’s heritage.

The menu leans heavily on Cajun classics with starters that showcase the unique local ingredients — think crawfish and alligator sausage cheesecake or lump crab cakes that highlight the Gulf’s bounty. The gumbo selections, like shrimp and okra or chicken and sausage, offer the kind of rich, comforting flavors that visitors seek when craving authentic Cajun cuisine. Portions are generous, inviting a shared meal or a full hearty plate on their own.

Families will find a thoughtful kids’ menu featuring down-to-earth favorites such as fried chicken fingers and crawfish tails with French fries, which suits both locals wanting a familiar bite and travelers with younger diners. The vibe of the Café also leans toward being a social hub, where locals come to relax over drinks, listen to zydeco music during special nights, or simply unwind after a busy day.

Visiting Café Des Amis feels like stepping into a friendly gathering spot rather than a formal dining event. It’s best suited for midday or early evening when the energy is most vibrant, and you can watch the ebb and flow of both locals and travelers enjoying real, unpretentious Louisiana flavors. Those looking for a taste of Breaux Bridge’s real culinary personality, without pretense, will find this spot welcoming and worthwhile.

Loved the atmosphere of this place! I didn't know what to expect of a zydeco dance hall/restaurant, but I was thoroughly delighted. As a vegan, I didn't try to have a meal here (seems it would have been a waste of table space), but my $5 entry fee sure did provide plenty of great music and spectacle. The dance floor takes up at least half of the building, with the musicians performing right at the front. It's easy to hear the music from outside if you don't want to pay the entry fee (and it is quite loud inside), but you won't be able to easily see the dancers, and that would be a great shame. One of the most memorable stops in my trip through Louisiana (including a few days in New Orleans!).

Good local food. Lots of it. In a nice, large, bit chilly space. Service started slowly but was friendly. Excellent Cajun food, luckily hardly any French stuff at all (OK, the burger buns are croissants...).

Don and I had the very best experience at this historic cafe! We wanted to get a true cajun taste before we left Louisiana . We ordered soup, appetizers and dessert. What a full meal! We had shrimp and okra gumbo and chicken and sausage gumbo for our soups. For appetizers we had eggplant wheels topped with crawfish étouffée half and half and crawfish alligator sausage cheesecake ! So filling! The loaf of french bread was wonderful! For dessert we had white chocolate bread pudding! Fantastic! I can truly say this was a most pleasant experience! You will not be disappointed with the atmosphere, food, service or price! Our waiter was exceptional!

My wife and I go here when we visit her family in Lafayette. The appetizers are amazing we don't even get to the main course anymore. We order the fried eggplant and craw-fish corn bread, catfish bites and the crab cakes. All are fantastic! It a very casual place where people come to talk and have great food. Not the uptight 5 star restaurant experience but a fun place to go have some good Cajun food.
